Cleaning Tip #12 - What Not to Feed Sick Kids

Cleaning Tips, Other Tips, Misc, House, Carpet

Warning: If you get queasy thinking or talking about people getting sick, you may not want to read further. And when I say sick, I mean throwing up. You've been warned. :)

The other day I cleaned up some spots caused by throw up. The carpet was a light colored carpet and the spots were bright orange. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get the color out which was caused by the food dyes in the food the person had eaten. A lot of food dyes do come out of carpet. Some don't.

I started cleaning and it did come out. So I didn't have to worry about trying our red dye removal process on it.

(It's always amazing to see spots come out when we start cleaning. Sometimes it's like magic!)

Now, I've thought this before, if we have a sick kid then we should make sure to give them foods that, if it does come back out, it won't stain the carpet. Sometimes there isn't any chance to do that before someone gets sick, but if there is, I think it may be possible to avoid foods with colors to them.

Maybe that's why my mom had us drink Sprite.

I would definitely avoid things like bright red Gatorades or brightly colored pops. There are Gatorades that are clear, too. Candies and even jellos have strong/bright food dyes, too. I recommend staying with clear liquids and simple foods like crackers.

Another tip is to put towels on the floor near the person that is sick. Just in case.

I hope I haven't made you too queasy, but when someone in your family does get sick, you know what to avoid. Hopefully, though, no one gets sick for a long, long time.
